Your information

Privacy

A clear explanation of the information The Grapevine uses to deliver the newsletter and review reader submissions.

Contact: For privacy questions, email hello@readgrapevine.ca.

Newsletter subscriptions

When you subscribe, the email address you provide is sent to Kit, which The Grapevine uses to manage newsletter subscriptions and email delivery. You can unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter.

Tips and event submissions

If you send a story tip, the details and any contact information you choose to provide will be available to the publication team for review and follow-up. Contact details are optional. Reader submissions are not automatically published.

Website use

We count anonymous visits and calendar actions to see what's useful. We don't collect names, email addresses, precise location or IP addresses.

As we bring Grapevine analytics together across readgrapevine.ca and events.readgrapevine.ca, we will use one random first-party identifier for up to 30 days to deduplicate visitors. It will not contain personal details. Analytics will keep page paths, referrer host and path, and the UTM fields used for attribution; it will not keep full URLs or other query parameters.

Past issue access

Full newsletter issues are reserved for active subscribers. Enter an email address to check access. If it is already active in Kit, this browser is remembered when you continue. If it is not active, the address is subscribed through our usual Kit sign-up and welcome-email process. Archive access uses an opaque, HttpOnly browser cookie that is refreshed as you read and is removed if you sign out or clear this site’s cookies. The server stores a hashed session token and Kit subscriber ID, and checks subscription status at least once every 24 hours.

Newsletter issue feedback

When you tap a rating link in one of our newsletters, your choice may be recorded against your Kit subscription using your subscriber ID. We use this to improve future issues and understand which subscribers are engaging with the newsletter. A repeat tap changes your answer rather than creating a second vote. If a link contains no subscriber ID, we use a poll-specific cookie or hashed connection and browser details to limit duplicates. Automated link checks may be flagged without being counted as confirmed votes.

Individual subscriber IDs and answers are private to The Grapevine's authorized editorial systems and are never shown in public results. We remove subscriber-level attribution from votes after 12 months while retaining anonymous aggregate results. If you want your poll activity reviewed or removed sooner, email hello@readgrapevine.ca.
